The Best Reverse Image Search Tools in 2026: Google Lens, Yandex, Face Lookup & More

We spent a week running the same set of photos through every major reverse image search tool. Here's what we found — and which one we'd actually keep using.

We tested every major reverse image search tool against the same set of 50 photos — landscapes, products, screenshots, faces, art, and a few memes. Here's how the top contenders actually stack up, and which one we keep coming back to for day-to-day work.

Google Lens — the default for a reason

Google Lens is the heavyweight. Its database is the largest of any consumer-facing reverse image search, and the result page has the most useful layout: visually similar images on top, exact matches below, then "things in this image" suggestions on the side.

Where it falls short is faces. Google intentionally doesn't surface face matches anymore — the policy changed around 2022 and hasn't come back. If you need face lookup, skip Google.

Best for: general lookups, products, landmarks, text in images, translations. Worst for: finding people.

Yandex Images — the dark horse

Yandex is the one tool that consistently outperforms Google in our tests, especially for faces and locations. Its face matching is genuinely useful and returns publicly indexed photos from across the Russian-speaking web, which often contain unique or older material you can't find elsewhere.

The interface isn't as polished, and the results can be a bit noisy. But when we genuinely need to find someone or something, we try Yandex first now.

Best for: face lookup, location recognition, non-English content, older images. Worst for: UX polish.

Bing Visual Search — the underdog

Bing's visual search is the best of the three for shopping specifically. If you upload a product photo, Bing's matching is excellent — it often returns the exact SKU and a price comparison. For everything else, it's roughly equivalent to Google but with a smaller database.

Best for: shopping, product identification. Worst for: face lookups, rare images.

TinEye — the specialist

TinEye is the oldest reverse image search still running. It has a much smaller database than the big three, but its tracking is meticulous. If TinEye finds a match, it'll tell you the oldest version it knows about. That's the killer feature for copyright-detection work.

Where it loses: anything TinEye hasn't indexed, which is most of the modern web. The free version is also limited to 150 searches per week.

What about face lookup tools?

PimEyes, FaceCheckID, and similar services do one thing: find faces. They're more powerful than Google or Yandex for this specific task, but they sit in a different legal and ethical category. Use them carefully and only for legitimate reasons — finding your own photos being misused, or vetting a professional connection.

Our actual workflow

When we need to run a reverse image search for something tricky, we go through this order:

  1. Yandex first — for anything involving a person or a place
  2. Google Lens — for products, text, and general-purpose lookups
  3. TinEye — if we need to know the oldest version of an image
  4. Bing — if a product match is what we care about

The good news: you don't need a dozen tools. Our own reverse image search uses Google Lens under the hood, which covers the vast majority of cases well. If you need Yandex or TinEye, this site is the only one you need to bookmark for the rest.
